Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Arts at the University of Baghdad, Professor Dr Ali Abdul-Amir Sajit, the academic staff and students of the Department of Translation at the College of Arts, University of Baghdad, organised a voluntary tree-planting initiative in the department’s gardens. The initiative included planting citrus trees, teak trees, fig trees, olive trees, albizia trees, and acacia trees, in addition to a variety of ornamental flowers.

This initiative aims to promote the values of volunteerism among students, foster environmental sustainability awareness, and raise awareness of the importance of expanding green spaces. It also seeks to instil a sense of responsibility and belonging to the educational institution, in line with the educational and academic mission of the College of Arts.

The Dean issued letters of appreciation to the participating students and honoured those who demonstrated the highest levels of activity and engagement, commending the efforts of the academic staff and students in organising such valuable initiatives.

Participants recommended continuing tree-planting initiatives on a regular basis, with ongoing monitoring and care of the plants to ensure their sustainability. They also emphasised the importance of support for environmental initiatives from relevant authorities, thereby strengthening a culture of environmental sustainability.

The Department of Translation reaffirms its commitment to continuing to organise such impactful initiatives, which contribute to improving the university environment and promoting a culture of volunteerism, reflecting the college’s civilised image and its active role in serving the community.
