Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Arts at the University of Baghdad, Professor Dr Ali Abdul-Amir Sajit, the Student Activities Division organised a chess championship for male and female students. The event was part of its programmes aimed at developing intellectual and cognitive skills, fostering a spirit of positive competition, and encouraging active participation in university sports activities.
The championship witnessed intense competition among the participants, highlighting the importance of concentration, strategic planning, and quick decision-making. These skills are embodied in chess, a sport that combines athletic and intellectual engagement and contributes to enhancing individual abilities and developing university students’ critical thinking.
The championship results were as follows:
-
First Place: Mohammed Yas Khudair, Department of English Language.
-
Second Place: Mohammed Jihad Mohammed, Department of History.
-
Third Place: Hassan Ali Hassan, Department of Psychology.
Organising this championship forms part of the Student Activities Division’s ongoing efforts to enrich university life, broaden student participation in various sporting and cultural events, and provide opportunities for students to showcase their abilities and talents in a university environment that encourages excellence and positive competition.
