In recognition of the Day of Geological and Geographical Diversity, the College of Arts at the University of Baghdad, under the patronage of Professor Dr. Ali Abdul-Amir Sajet, Dean of the College of Arts, is hosting Iraq’s inaugural workshop for this occasion
This event, which is recognised annually on 6 October by UNESCO, has the objective of highlighting the importance of geological and geographical diversity. The workshop, held in the hall of the Iraqi-German Institute of Archaeology and Assyriology, featured an insightful lecture by Prof. Dr. Aqeel Al-Zubaidi, a member of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), entitled “Geological Diversity and Its Importance in Archaeological Sites”. In his lecture, Prof. Al-Zubaidi explored how Iraq’s unique geological formations contribute to a deeper understanding of its archaeological sites
In conclusion, the workshop underscored the significance of geological diversity to Iraq’s cultural heritage and demonstrated the University of Baghdad’s commitment to promoting interdisciplinary research
