The Dean of the College of Arts at the University of Baghdad, Prof. Ali Abdulameer Sajet, Ph.D., held a series of extensive meetings with the Orient Department of the German Archaeological Institute (DAI) in Berlin, during his visit to Germany upon an official invitation from the Institute.

The meetings were chaired by Dr. Margarete van Ess, Scientific Director of the Orient Department at the DAI, and attended by Dr. Maisoon Issa, Professor at the Institute, along with the participation of Professor Prof. Laith Majid Hussein, Ph.D., Director of the Center for Arab Scientific Heritage, and Prof. Mahmoud Al-Qaisi, Ph.D., from the College of Arts.

The discussions focused on finalizing the internal regulations of the Iraqi–German Center for Archaeology and Assyriology, which is expected to complete its establishment requirements in the coming months. Both sides also examined the academic cooperation opportunities that the center will offer to graduate students and specialists in archaeology, humanities, and social sciences—through research fellowships and support for scientific research projects at the University of Baghdad and its affiliated institutions.

Prof. Ali Abdulameer Sajet, Ph.D. expressed the University’s and its colleges’ readiness to provide all necessary support to ensure the success of this national project. Dr. Margarete van Ess expressed her appreciation for this academic advancement in the long-standing cooperation between the German Archaeological Institute and the University of Baghdad and the College of Arts, noting that the partnership spans more than three decades. She emphasized that the center will serve as an Iraqi–German research hub to enhance joint academic activities.
